Tom Rochioli
Winemaker

In the mid-1980’s Tom Rochioli began to produce some of the first estate wines from the property, and the results were immeasurable, with all of the wines receiving exceptional ratings and reviews by the nations press.

The intentionally low case production allows Tom to practice hands-on, labor intensive wine making. Tom believes that it all starts in their vineyard, with farming practices that keep the yields low resulting in a premium crop. He does not follow a specific recipe when he makes wine. He believes in the art of wine making, taking the fruit from each vintage and hand-crafting small lots of wines that showcase the diverse characters of their property. As a third-generation winemaker, and a Sonoma County Icon, Tom is proud of the significant contributions to farming and winemaking that he and his family have made over the years.

Today, Tom and his wife Theresa Rochioli manage the Rochioli brand, while Tom’s father Joe Jr. oversees the vineyards. Case production is about 12,000 cases of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Year after year, the wines continue to receive excellent ratings and rank at the top of virtually every wine collectors wish list.

Winemaker's Notes

This 2022 Chardonnay comes from a Grand Cru site in the Russian River Valley. Planted in 1989, it is one of the oldest Chardonnay plantings on the Estate. The wine offers apple, citrus, classic minerality. It is balanced with richness and cleansing acidity on the palate. Layered flavors of tree ripened apple and vanilla that persist with purity, precision and length that still trend toward a richer, classic style. As with most wines from this famed vineyard, it will age beautifully for those with the patience to cellar this special wine.

Farmer's Notes

The 2022 growing season was challenging but the wines were great. Our area was experiencing a severe drought which created an abnormally low crop. This low yield and the ideal weather created perfectly ripened fruit with natural brisk acidity. The morning fog in the Russian River Valley creates a useful cooling which helps preserve the natural acidities and aromatic flavors of the grapes. The long, even growing season allowed for a very controlled harvest and once again this vineyard has produced exceptional wine.
